FAQ
How do you become a member of Phi Theta Kappa?
The local chapter extends an invitation to students who meet the
eligibility requirements.
How much are membership dues?
It’s a one–time $76 fee. The membership fee benefits national,
regional and local chapters.
What criteria are used to determine membership?
Phi Theta Kappa membership is based on academic achievement. Students
must be enrolled in an associate degree program, must complete
a minimum of 12 hours of coursework leading to an associate degree,
must have a 3.6 grade point average, and must enjoy full rights
of citizenship.
Are students who are enrolled in associate degree
programs eligible if they do not plan to complete their Associate
Degree?
A member is not required to receive an associate degree, as long
as he or she has met the eligibility requirements listed above.
Can a part-time student become a member?
Most chapters accept part-time members who meet all the eligibility
standards listed above.
What is required to maintain membership?
After induction, members must maintain a 3.4 GPA.
Is participation a requirement?
Participation in chapter activities is not a requirement for membership.
Phi Theta Kappa’s constitution requires only that a member make
and maintain a certain grade point average. No service activities
may be required of members, nor may the chapter withhold basic
benefits from a member in good standing. However, you will certainly
want to consider the benefits of participating in the many programs
available through Phi Theta Kappa membership.
What about students who attend college in the
United States but who are not U.S. citizens?
International students are welcome to become members. They must
meet the eligibility standards listed above, including full rights
of citizenship in their country.
