Lakeshore Technical College students recently were inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society of two-year colleges that offer associate degree programs. Membership is by invitation only and is conferred upon students who pass specific academic and other requirements. LTC Vice President of Instruction Tom Hilke, LTC Student Services Operations Manager Scott Lieburn and LTC Phi Theta Kappa Chapter 2007-08 President Jennifer Nielsen led the ceremony. Incoming 2008-09 officers also were sworn in at the event. They are President Wendi Barner, Vice President Kevin Soule and Secretary Jennifer Kaufmann. Besides Nielsen, outgoing 2007-08 officers include Vice President Julia Meyer and Secretary Wendi Barner. Phi Theta Kappa’s mission is to “recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming.” LTC’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa will participate in “Project Graduation: Feed a Body, Feed a Mind.” Project Graduation is a Phi Theta Kappa civic engagement program that encourages two-year college students to donate canned goods and books to local relief agencies and literacy organizations. LTC’s Phi Theta Kappa members have donation bins located at LTC’s Cleveland campus through graduation day on May 10 for the collection of nonperishable food and books. LTC graduating students and their guests are encouraged to bring their donations to the commencement ceremony and other graduation activities. All items will be given to Safe Harbor, a domestic violence shelter in Sheboygan.
